Los Angeles Angels’ reigning American League MVP and franchise cornerstone Mike Trout had one heck of a night to celebrate his 26th birthday.
Trout tallied his 1,000 career hit with a double in the 4th inning of the Angels’ game against the Baltimore Orioles, a game that the Angels lost 6-2.
To add icing on the birthday cake, no pun intended, Trout became the third player in the past 100 years to record a milestone hit on his birthday.
Trout also hit his 23rd home run of the season which marked the 4th time he hit a homer on his birthday.
“I’m not thinking about homers,” Trout said. “I just go out there, try to hit the ball hard, and that one went out of the park.”
“When you hear your name with the greats, the Hall of Famers when you do something, it makes you feel good,” Trout said.
“It makes you feel special just to be a part of such a good company. But for me, it’s just going out there and playing. I’m not trying to chase any numbers.”
