Giants Interested In Rays’ Evan Longoria

The Tampa Bay Rays are looking to ship off some premier talent including the likes of ace pitcher Chris Archer and franchise cornerstone Evan Longoria.

Longoria has caught the attention of the San Francisco Giants who have “keen interest” in swinging a deal for the veteran, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.

In the report from Nightengale, in order for a trade to work, the Giants would need the Rays to take the contract of either Hunter Pence or Denard Span.

The Giants demands may be lofty for the Rays as Pence is entering the final season of a five-year, $90M contract and is owed $18.5M in 2018 while Span is owed a $9M salary plus a $4M buyout in 2018 and will also reportedly receive $3M from his signing bonus in January 2018.

Longoria is coming off a down 2017 season, but a change of scenery could help him jump back to his “norm”.
