Yankees, Pirates Still Discussing Gerrit Cole Trade

The New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Pirates are still discussing a trade that would send starting pitcher Gerrit Cole to the Bronx, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports.

Passan’s report states that the Yanks are “working on a deal to acquire” Cole and that the trade is “a matter of when rather than if”.

The Pirates are “highly motivated to trade” Cole even if nothing materializes with the Yankees, according to Passan.

Passan’s report comes on the heels of  Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic’s report on Wednesday that stated the trade talks between the two teams “have cooled” following the winter meetings.

Pittsburgh was looking for infielder and prized prospect Gleyber Torres in a deal but called outfielder Clint Frazier “a more likely centerpiece”, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

The Yankees are also exploring free agent hurler Yu Darvish, according to report.
