Braves Acquire Kevin Gausman, Darren O’Day

The Atlanta Braves have acquired Kevin Gausman and Darren O’Day from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for a package of prospects, according to Fancred’s Jon Heyman.

Gausman gives Atlanta another viable starter, one that is under control until the 2020.

According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, the Orioles will receive prospect package composed of infielder Jean Carlos Encarnacion, catcher Brett Cumberland, righty Evan Phillips, and lefty Bruce Zimmermann, in addition to $2.5M in international bonus money.

Braves’ Brandon McCarthy To Retire At Season’s End

Atlanta Braves veteran right hander Brandon McCarthy says that his 13th season in the majors will be his final one, as he will retire once the season ends, the final year of his four-year, $48M contract, according to MLB.com’s Mark Bowman.

McCarthy, 35, is trying to work his way back from a knee injury that has cost him the majority of the 2018 season and indicated that if he were to continue his playing career, he would have opted to undergo season ending surgery.

Additionally, McCarthy is modifying his delivery in an effort to work through the injury, and is expected to come back as a reliever.

Yankees Interested in Zack Wheeler

It appears that the New York Yankees aren’t done addressing their rotation following their trade with the Toronto Blue Jays for J.A. Happ, who turned in a brilliant debut performance in their win over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday.

According to Fancred’s Jon Heyman, the Yankees are among a few teams that are interested in New York Mets starter Zack Wheeler.

Among the Yankees, the Atlanta Braves, Philadelphia Phillies, and Milwaukee Brewers are also reportedly interested.

Wheeler’s name has been popping up after he has posted a 3.20 ERA over his past 11 starts.

While his 4.11 ERA for the season still looks shaky, he has shown solid improvement during his recent hot streak.

Braves Acquire Jonny Venters

The Atlanta Braves have acquired reliever Jonny Venters from the Tampa Bay Rays, bringing Venters back to the team he played for from 2010-2012.

Venters, 33, heads to Atlanta in exchange for an international signing slot that is to be worth $250,000, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.

Venters has pitched sporadically for the Rays, posting a 3.86 ERA with 11 strikeouts and six walks in 14 innings this season for Tampa Bay.
