Twins’ Joe Mauer, Logan Morrison Clear Revocable Trade Waivers

Minnesota Twins veteran hitters Joe Mauer and Logan Morrison both went unclaimed during trade waiver process, according to the Pioneer Press’s Mike Berardino.

Both players are eligible to be dealt for the remainder of the season, but Mauer’s remaining owed money is likely a deterent for many interested teams, as it, and his full no-trade clause, probably was during the trade waiver process.

Mauer is not the player he once was, seeing a significant downturn over the course of the last few seasons.

Morrison signed a one-year, $5.5M with Minnesota during the offseason, including a $1M buyout of a club option year for 2019.

Tigers Acquire Nolan Blackwood

The Detroit Tigers have acquired right-hander Nolan Blackwood from Oakland Athletics, per a club announcement, although the Tigers have not yet decided yet whether or not to receive a player-to-be-named-later or cash considerations in the return of trade, according to San Francisco Chronicle’s Susan Slusser.

Blackwood is one of the two players to be named later in the who teams’ completed Mike Fiers trade earlier this season.

Blackwood, 23, has been with the Athletics’ organization since they drafted with the 14th pick in the 2016 draft.

Red Sox Place Chris Sale On DL

The Boston Red Sox have placed starting pitcher, and Cy Young Award candidate, Chris Sale on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to August 15th, as the hurler is dealing with mild inflammation in his pitching shoulder, prompting the move.

Sale was previously on the disabled list, with the same issue, back on July 31st, which makes this tenure a bit alarming.

Indians’ Trevor Bauer Out 4-6 Weeks with Stress Fracture

Cleveland Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer will miss four to six weeks due to a stress fracture in his right leg.

Bauer had been putting in a stellar season, with a 12-6 record to go along with a 2.22 ERA, and he is one of the leading candidates for the American League Cy Young award. The loss of Bauer for any stretch of time, especially for this time frame, will be an incredible blow to the Indians moving forward.

Bauer could return during the regular season in mid-to-late September.
