Nationals Unwilling To Meet Marlins Price For J.T. Realmuto

Published

on

The Washington Nationals won’t be paying the Miami Marlins what they want for catcher J.T. Realmuto, according to Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo.

During an interview with Jim Bowden of MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM, Rizzo said that the Nationals have contacted the Marlins regarding Realmuto’s availability but haven’t really checked back in since that talk.

“They’ve got a great player in Realmuto,” said Rizzo. “They’re not going to sell him cheap. We know what the return has to be on Realmuto, and we’re not willing to meet that price. So unless something changes there, on their end, we’re going to go with [Matt] Wieters when he gets healthy and a combination of [Pedro] Severino and [Spencer] Kieboom to back him up.”

Rumors suggest that Miami was asking for coveted prospects Victor Robles or Juan Soto to headline any deal, a high price tag.

It will be interesting to see if interest in Realmuto is renewed, or if another team jumps in willing to play ball with the Marlins lofty expectations.
