Yankees Activate Aaron Hicks, Place Clint Frazier On 10-Day DL

Published

on

The New York Yankees are welcoming back one of their standout performers of the 2017 season from the disabled list.

Hicks injured his oblique in a June 25th game against the Texas Rangers.

Originally, Hicks had been expected to be activated from the disabled list prior to Friday’s game against the Boston Red Sox, but instead was activated a day early.

New York also placed outfielder Clint Frazier on the disabled list with a left oblique strain.

“I’ve been telling them it’s been pretty tender the last few days,” Frazier said on Wednesday (h/t MLB.com).

“I think Joe [Girardi] just saw me fiddling with my side in BP today and wanted to give me a day.”

“He said he felt some cramping last night when he came out of the game,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said.

“Today he felt it in BP and I just said, ‘We’re not taking a chance.’ I don’t think it’s really significant but we’ve got to make sure it doesn’t turn into what Aaron Hicks has.”

Frazier admitted that he never had an oblique injury before and didn’t think that the injury affected his performance but did mention it bothered him during workouts.

“I think it’s just a thought in the back of your head at all times,” Frazier said. “It kind of takes away from the thought of focusing on hitting the baseball rather than, ‘Is it going to go on my next swing or not?'”
