Tigers, Astros Talking Justin Verlander Trade

Published

on

The Detroit Tigers are again engaging in trade talks with the Houston Astros for starting pitcher Justin Verlander, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

Verlander, who cleared revocable waivers earlier this month, has been linked to the Astros for quite some time as Houston looks to ramp up for their postseason run.

Verlander, 34, is posting a posted a 3.97 ERA and 1.36 WHIP across 24 starts in what is considered a down year for the veteran.

Verlander possesses a full no-trade clause in his current contract which makes the possibility of remaining in Detroit very likely. Verlander also has a very lucrative contract with the Tigers, one that also makes it appealing to remain in Detroit.

According to Heyman, the Tigers are willing to eat some of that money to trade Verlander away.

Houston has struggled a bit in August so they may be more motivated now than ever to get a deal for Verlander done.
