Dodger’s Yu Darvish Outing Cut Short Due To Back Stiffness

The Los Angeles Dodgers are playing it safe with recently acquired starting pitcher Yu Darvish.

Darvish, who made his home debut for the Dodger on a night where he celebrated his 31st birthday, got a no-decision after pitching six innings in the Dodgers’ comeback win over the Chicago White Sox.

After the game, Darvish stated that he was pulled due to tightness in his back. Darvish said he first felt tightness in his back last week in his start at Arizona against the Diamondbacks.

“Between innings, I talked to [Clayton] Kershaw, and he asked me, ‘How do you feel?’ ” Darvish said via an interpreter.

“I told him, ‘I feel something in my back,’ and he said, ‘We need you really bad in six weeks.’

“I was getting tight, so I talked to Doc [Dodgers manager Dave Roberts], and he just said, ‘Let’s play it safe.’ ”

Darvish gave up three runs and eight hits in his six innings striking out only 2 batters which set a career low.
