Rockies Closer Greg Holland To Opt Out, Become Free Agent

Colorado Rockies closer Greg Holland is choosing to bet on himself on the free agency market.

Holland will not exercise his $15 million player option and instead become a free agent, according to FanRag Sports’ Jon Heyman.

Holland is represented by agent Scott Boras and according to Heyman’s report execs believed Mark Melancon’s $62 million, four-year deal could be the market for Holland.

Holland led the National League with 58 games, 41 saves and a 3.61 ERA after missing 2016 following Tommy John surgery.

Rockies Place Tyler Anderson On IL

The Colorado Rockies have placed left-hander Tyler Anderson on the 10-day injured list due to left knee inflammation, according to an official team announcement.

Anderson, 29, has struggled to start the season, giving up 11 runs over his first 2 starts of the 2019 campaign.

In a corresponding move, the Rockies have recalled right-hander Yency Almonte from Triple-A.

The Colorado Rockies have signed left hander Jorge De La Rosa who was brought back to the organization via a minors deal.

De La Rosa, 38, spent 9 years with the Rockies, pitching to the tune of a 4.35 ERA during that span, and spent the last two seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago Cubs.

Rockies Call Up Pat Valaika

The Colorado Rockies have called up infielder Pat Valaika to fill the roster spot of the injured Daniel Murphy, according to The Athletic’s Nick Groke.

Valaika is coming off a red hot Spring Training in which he clubbed 4 homers in 49 at bats.

At this time is appears as though Valaika will serve in a bench role, as Ryan McMahon will take Murphy’s starting job during his absence.
