World Series Game 6 Preview, Game 2 Rematch: Justin Verlander Vs Rich Hill

After Sunday night’s thrilling Game 5, the Houston Astros are just one win away from winning their first World Series title.

The series shifts to Los Angeles for the final two games (if necessary), and tonight’s Game 6 features a rematch of the Game 2 starters, Justin Verlander of Houston and Rich Hill of LA.

Both starters received no-decisions in last Wednesday’s 7-6 Astros win in 11 innings. Verlander allowed three earned runs in six innings, while Hill struck out seven in four innings of one-run ball.

Houston looks to clinch the series with their workhorse going (added on August 31 for this very reason), and Los Angeles simply looks to stay alive for a Game 7 tomorrow night.

Boston has designated catcher Blake Swihart for assignment, according to WEEI.com’s Evan Drellich.

According to MLB Network insider Jon Heyman, catcher Sandy Leon will be heading back to the Red Sox roster.

Yankees Place Greg Bird on IL

The New York Yankees have once again had to place first baseman Greg Bird on the injured list, something Bird has been on for the majority of his career,

Bird was placed on the injured list with a left plantar fascia tear, and Bird joins an alarmingly expanding injured list for the Yanks.

In corresponding moves, the Yankees shifted Jacoby Ellsbury to the 6-day IL and selected the contract of first baseman Mike Ford, according to an official team announcement.

Bird may done with the Yankees, as his career has been riddled by injuries and he has struggled at the plate this season.

Indians’ Francisco Lindor To Begin Rehab Assignment

Cleveland Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor is set to being his rehab assignment with Triple-A Columbus, according to MLB.com’s Mandy Bell.

Lindor is returning from a calf strain and a high left ankle sprain, which has kept him out of the start of the 2019 season.

Lindor is one of baseball’s most promising young stars and is coming off an MVP caliber season in 2018.
