D’Backs J.D. Martinez Seeking 7-Year, $210 Million Contract

When it comes to free agency, Arizona Diamondbacks free agent outfielder J.D. Martinez reportedly is looking to not only break the bank, but print his own money.

Martinez is asking for a seven-year, $210 million contract at the general manager meetings taking place this week, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.

Martinez smacked 40 homers this past season, marking the fourth straight year he topped 20 homers.

Martinez has some defensive deficiencies, which were improved this year but still will cause teams to question his asking price.

Diamondbacks Agree to Terms with Greg Holland

The Arizona Diamonds have agreed to terms on a one-year pact with veteran free agent reliever Greg Holland, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal and Robert Murray.

Holland is set to earn a guaranteed $3.25 million along with $3.5 million in potential incentives, according to MLB.com’s Jon Heyman.

Holland, 33, had an up and down season for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Washington Nationals, following a terrific season for the Colorado Rockies, so it will be interesting to see which version of Holland the Diamondbacks will see in 2019.

Diamondbacks Sign Merrill Kelly To Two-Year Deal

The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed right hander Merrill Kelly to a two-year, $5.5 million contract, according to Yahoo Sports’ Jeff Passan.

Kelly’s new deal will pay him $2 million in 2019 and $3 million in 2020 and includes a pair of club options. The 30-year old has never pitched in the major leagues but had an impressive four-year stint in the Korea Baseball Organization.

Kelly was a former prospect in the Tampa Bay Rays organization.

Diamondbacks Sign Rob Refsnyder to Minor League Deal

The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed veteran utilityman Rob Refsnyder to a minor league contract that also comes with an invitation to Arizona’s big league Spring Training camp, giving Refsnyder a crack at their big league roster, according to an official team announcement via the Reno Aces, Arizona’s minor league affiliate.

Refsnyder bounced between the minors and the big leagues in 2018, posting a .283/.357/.402 slash line at the Triple-A level in the Tampa Bay Rays’ organization, and hitting .167/.314/.274 for Tampa Bay over 40 big league games.
