During the first night of the general manager meetings Monday in Orlando, the focus shifted from business-related conversations, to a moment of recognition.

After a 2017 season in which his team won an American League-best 102 games including a 22-game win streak, Cleveland Indians President Chris Antonetti was honored with the Sporting News’ MLB Executive of the Year Award.

Sporting News has presented this particular award every year since 1936.

Antonetti won by a landslide, receiving 18 of the 44 votes; no other executive received more than four.

Voting took place in September and early October among 44 MLB executives.

This marks the sixth time someone within the Indians organization has won the Executive of the Year Award. Antonetti joins Bill Veeck (1948), John Hart (1995-96), and Mark Shapiro (2005, 2007) as the others to win.

Antonetti has been with the Indians since 1999 when he began as a Baseball Operations assistant. 2017 was his second season as President after serving as general manager from 2011-15.
