Rangers’ Nick Martinez Undergoes Hernia Surgery, Expected To Be Ready For Spring Training

Published

on

The Texas Rangers announced Monday that starting pitcher Nick Martinez underwent a surgical repair for a sports hernia this past Thursday.

Dr. William Meyers performed the surgery for Martinez in Philadelphia. Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus had the same procedure done by Meyers last offseason.

Martinez, 27, struggled for the Rangers in 2017, going 3-8 with a 5.66 ERA in 23 games (18 starts). He had enormous problems with the long ball, giving up 26 dingers in 111 1/3 innings pitched.

In four seasons for Texas since his Major League debut in 2014, Martinez is 17-30 with a 4.77 ERA.

The Rangers expect Martinez to be ready for the start of Spring Training. As of now, he’s projected to be part of next year’s rotation, though Texas is actively looking to improve in that area.
