Red Sox Reportedly Offer JD Martinez $100 Million Over Five Years

Published

on

The Boston Red Sox are still waiting- or hoping- to sign free agent JD Martinez.

ESPN’s Buster Olney reported on Wednesday that the Red Sox offered the slugging right fielder a deal “in the range” of five years at $100 million.

Martinez’s asking price at the start of the offseason was $200 million, and he recently said he’s willing to wait until Spring Training to sign with a new team.

Red Sox general manager Dave Dombrowski hasn’t made any notable roster moves this offseason, and landing Martinez is number one on his to-do list. The Red Sox need a boost in the middle of their lineup, and that’s where Martinez comes in.

Martinez, 30, finished with a career-high 45 homers in 2017, as he split 119 games between the Detroit Tigers and Arizona Diamondbacks.
