Reds Hire John Farrell

The Cincinnati Reds have hired former Boston Red Sox skipper John Farrell, according to Rob Bradford of WEEI.com.

Farrell will work as a scout within the Reds’ organization, according to The Athletic’s C.Trent Rosecrans.

Farrell’s first order of business will be to evaluate the Reds’ current system, according to MLB expert insider Peter Gammons.

Farrell served as the Red Sox manager until the end of 2017, when he was fired and replaced by new manager Joey Cora.

Farrell led Boston to the 2013 World Series title and mulitple AL East division titles during his tenure.

Reds Acquire Rob Refsnyder

The Cincinnati Reds have acquired Rob Refsnyder from the Arizona Diamondbacks for a player to be named later, and cash, according to an official team announcement on Twitter.

Refsnyder will immediately report to Triple-A.

The Miami Marlins may be closing in on a deal to deal catcher J.T. Realmuto as several teams are considered to be in “advanced stages” in talks about a trade, according to MLB.com’s Joe Frisaro.

The report goes on to say that the Cincinnati Reds are in “substantive” talks with the Marlins.

Other teams linked to the deep talks are the San Diego Padres, Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Tampa Bay Rays.

Yankees, Reds Finalizing Sonny Gray Trade

The Cincinnati Reds are finalizing a trade with the New York Yankees for veteran starting pitcher Sonny Gray.

The trade, which would send second base prospect Shed Long and a draft pick to New York, has hit a delay as the Reds try to work out a long-term deal with Gray.

As the trade drags on, it is possible that the Yankees could run out of patience and deal Gray elsewhere.

According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, the Yankees had received multiple offers from teams for Gray as of last Friday, so if the deal with the Reds fall through, they have other options.
