Brewers Designate J.J. Hoover

The Milwaukee Brewers have designated right handed pitcher J.J. Hoover for assignment, according to a team announcement.

Milwaukee also optioned outfielder Brett Phillips.

Both moves were done to clear room on the roster for right handers Junior Guerra and Jorge Lopez.

Hoover didn’t make the team out of Spring Training, but was called up just a week into the new season.

Hoover, who had a solid spring, ended up giving up the game-winning home run in their game on Tuesday night.

Brewers Sign Yasmani Grandal

The Milwaukee Brewers have signed free agent catcher Yasmani Grandal to a one-year deal, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

Grandal had a standing four-year offer from the New York Mets, but opted to land in Milwaukee on a one-year pact.

While Grandal had a nightmare postseason, he still presents a much needed upgrade for the Brewers backstop depth.

Brewers Sign Jake Petricka

The Milwaukee Brewers have agreed to terms on a split, major league contract with free agent right hander Jake Petricka, according to The Athletic’s Robert Murray.

Petricka, 30, will hold a spot on the 40-man roster as part of the new deal, which is pending a physical.

Petricka pitched the to tune of a 4.53 ERA over 45 2/3 innings last season with the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Milwaukee Brewers have agreed to terms with free agent infielder Cory Spangenberg and is pending a physical, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

While Spangenberg has struggled at the plate, he provides infield versatility as he can play second and third base, which could be a valuable asset to Milwaukee’s bench.
