Nationals Designate Miguel Montero

Published

on

The Washington Nationals have designated catcher Miguel Montero for assignment, the club announced on Wednesday.

The move opens a roster spot for catcher Matt Wieters, who is ready for activation, as well as a 40-man spot for Moises Sierra, who was brought up to fill the shoes of the injured Adam Eaton.

Montero has seen his performance at the plate and behind it dip since 2016 and has struggled throwing out potential base-stealers.

With the team’s preference to play Wieters and with the emergence of Pedro Severino, Montero may be on borrowed time with the Nats.
