Giants’ Evan Longoria Thinks Rays Need To Leave Tampa

Published

on

San Fransico Giants infielder Evan Longoria spent the majority of his playing career with the Tampa Bay Rays, but Longoria doesn’t see the team’s new stadium as the recipe to fix their attendance issues.

In fact, Longoria thinks it’s better for the Rays to look for a new city to call home.

“Honestly, and this is maybe not something I should say, but my gut tells me that the best decision might be to move the team,” Evan Longoria said Thursday, according to the Tampa Bay Times’ Marc Topkin.

“I say that only because I look at the example of the Miami Marlins, and (a new stadium) didn’t really solve their attendance issues. So from purely an attendance standpoint, somewhere else might be better.”

“[D]oes anyone really want to play in front of 10,000 a night?” Longoria asked rhetorically.

While the comments will certainly sting Rays’ fans, it’s hard to argue with Longoria’s opinion.
