Mets Place Outfielder Jay Bruce On The Disabled List

Published

on

The New York Mets placed right fielder Jay Bruce on the 10-day disabled list on Tuesday because of a right hip injury.

The move is retroactive to June 18. Bruce last played on Sunday when the Mets were in Arizona. He missed the first three games of the team’s series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Last week, Bruce revealed that his right hip was bothering him. The injury has likely been one of the causes of his recent slump. In the month of June, Bruce is batting just .118. He has not hit a home run since May 7.

This has been a rough season for Bruce, as he is not producing the power numbers we are accustomed to seeing from him. He is hitting .212 with three home runs and 17 RBIs in 62 games.

With Bruce out, young first baseman Dominic Smith is expected to see some playing time in the outfield. He started in left field for the Mets on Tuesday night against the Colorado Rockies. Now that both Bruce and Yoenis Cespedes are on the DL, the Mets have a real shortage of outfielders.

The Mets recalled pitcher Tim Peterson from Triple-A Las Vegas to take Bruce’s spot on the roster.

Mets Shopping Noah Syndergaard

Published

on

The New York Mets will likely be big sellers at the deadline and it appears that they are shopping starter Noah Syndergaard.

According to Newsday’s Tim Healey, the Mets have discussed Syndergaard with around six teams, adding that there’s “minimal urgency” on the Mets’ part to trade Syndergaard.

Per the report, the Mets would need to be “wowed” in order to move Syndergaard.

Syndergaard, 26, isn’t having the kind of season he is accustomed to, pitching to the tune of a 4.68 ERA, and is posting other career-low numbers.
