Braves Acquire Kevin Gausman, Darren O’Day

The Atlanta Braves have acquired Kevin Gausman and Darren O’Day from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for a package of prospects, according to Fancred’s Jon Heyman.

Gausman gives Atlanta another viable starter, one that is under control until the 2020.

According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, the Orioles will receive prospect package composed of infielder Jean Carlos Encarnacion, catcher Brett Cumberland, righty Evan Phillips, and lefty Bruce Zimmermann, in addition to $2.5M in international bonus money.

Braves Sign Pedro Florimon

The Atlanta Braves have agreed to a minor-league pact with veteran infielder Pedro Florimon, according to Fancred’s Jon Heyman.

Florimon has been able to land on a major league roster over the past 8 seasons but hasn’t been able to consistently reach over 100 plate appearances, doing so only twice during that span. However, Florimon has been a solid infielder for depth during his career.

Tigers Claim Dustin Peterson

The Detroit Tigers have claimed outfielder Dustin Peterson off of waivers from the Atlanta Braves and optioned him.

In a corresponding move, the Tigers transferred John Hicks fro the 10-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Peterson, 23, has had ups and downs during this stint in the minors, and has yet to show off the power that many thought he possessed.

Braves Acquire Rene Rivera

The Atlanta Braves have acquired catcher Rene Rivera from the Los Angeles Angels via a waiver claim, according to MLB.com’s Jon Morosi.

With the move the Braves will take on the remaining $500k on Rivera’s contract. Rivera is scheduled to hit free agency after the season and currently carries a slash line of .244/.287/.439 to go along with four homeruns over 30 games this season.

Rivera has been limited this season due to injury.
