Reds Place Joey Votto On Disabled List

Published

on

The Cincinnati Reds have placed Joey Votto on the 10-day disabled list due to a right knee contusion that he suffered last week when he was hit near the knee by Washington Nationals pitcher Ryan Madson in what has been viewed as intentional.

After the hit, Votto limped to first base as he barked at Madson, who appeared to be retaliating for the plunking of National players, such as Bryce Harper.

The trip to the disabled list will mark the first one for Votto since 2014, and he is posting a .284/.422/.419 batting line this season.

The Cincinnati Reds are finalizing a trade with the New York Yankees for veteran starting pitcher Sonny Gray.

The trade, which would send second base prospect Shed Long and a draft pick to New York, has hit a delay as the Reds try to work out a long-term deal with Gray.

As the trade drags on, it is possible that the Yankees could run out of patience and deal Gray elsewhere.

According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, the Yankees had received multiple offers from teams for Gray as of last Friday, so if the deal with the Reds fall through, they have other options.
