Nationals Exercise Option on Sean Doolittle

The Washington Nationals have formally announced their decision to exercise the $16 million club option on left handed hurler Sean Doolittle, according to the Washington Post’s Chelsea Janes.

Doolittle had a career year in 2018 as the primary closer for the Nats, posting an impressive 1.60 ERA over 45 innings in the key role, with 25 saves that are highlighted by a jaw dropping 60-to-6 K/BB ratio over that span of time.

Doolittle was easily one of the league’s best this season, so the move is a no brainer for Washington.

The development hangs a cloud of uncertainty over Martinez’s availability for Opening Day.

According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the deal will earn Moustakas $10 million and includes a $3 million buyout along with a $11 million mutual option for 2020.

Bryce Harper ‘Unsure’ About Signing with Phillies

Following the breaking news that Manny Machado had agreed to terms on a massive 10-year, $300 million deal with the San Diego Padres, the next superstar domino expected to fall is Bryce Harper.

Multiple reports are linking Harper with the Philadelphia Phillies, who are apparently willing to pay Harper’s lofty price tag demand, but it’s not a “slam dunk” that Harper lands in Philly.

According to SNY’s Andy Martino, Harper is “unsure” about signing with the Phillies.

This echos a December report from the New York Post’s Joel Sherman, one that says Harper wasn’t “particularly” fond of playing in Philadelphia.

Harper to the Phillies may not be the slam dunk that reports indicate, which means a mystery team may be luring Harper in.
