Dodgers Exercise Dave Roberts’ Option

The Los Angeles Dodgers have exercised the option on the contract of manager Dave Roberts and plan to continue negotiations on a long-term contract extension, according to president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman (h/t Orange County Register’s Bill Plunkett).

According to FanCred’s Jon Heyman, a four-year contract is likely in the works.

The Dodgers continue to address the contract status of their players, and are now focusing on their manager as they try again for a run at a World Series Championship.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are already formulating their plan for the offseason and that reportedly includes exploring a trade for Cleveland Indians shortstop Franciso Lindor.

According to MLB.com’s Jon Morosi, the Dodgers organization is expected to open trade talks with the Indians regarding Lindor this offseason, and have already crafted a clear plan to go after Lindor, widely considered one of the game’s premier young players.

However, the Dodgers are expected to have plenty of competition on the trade market.

Dodgers Place David Freese On Injured List

The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed infielder David Freese on the 10-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain, according to MLB.com’s Ken Gurnick.

Freese, 36, has had a solid season for the Dodgers, posting a slash line of .308/.407/.592, which is a career best.

Freese has often played first base for the Dodgers this season.

Dodgers Talk with Bryce Harper

The Los Angeles Dodgers are officially back in the Bryce Harper sweepstakes as Harper’s negotiations with the Philadelphia Phillies continue to stall.

According to MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez, the Dodgers have found their way “back in the mix” for Harper, with Dodgers manager Dave Roberts among a contingent who went to Las Vegas on Saturday to meet with Harper.

While Harper is eyeing a long-term contract, the Dodgers may be angling with a short-term deal, which makes their involvement, and Harper’s engaging with them, interesting.
