Cardinals Closing in On Deal with Andrew Miller

The St. Louis Cardinals are closing in on completing a deal for left handed reliever Andrew Miller and could announced a deal as soon as today, according to USA Today Sports’ Bob Nightengale.

Miller, 34, has a down year pitching for the Cleveland Indians in 2018, but he was dealing with shoulder and hamstring issues throughout the year and was one of the most dominant relievers in the majors in the years prior to last season.

Miller was heavily targeted by St. Louis, who are also targeting free agent reliever Zach Britton.

The St. Louis Cardinals have placed outfielder Tyler O’Neill and right hander Mike Mayers on the 10-day injured list.

O’Neill suffered an ulnar nerve subluxation in his right elbow and Mayers has a strained lat.

The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired catcher David Freitas from the Seattle Mariners, according to an official team announcement.

The Mariners will receiver minor-league pitcher Sal Biasi as part of the deal.

Freitas will immediately report to Triple-A after appearing in 36 games with the Mariners last season.

Rockies Place Tyler Anderson On IL

The Colorado Rockies have placed left-hander Tyler Anderson on the 10-day injured list due to left knee inflammation, according to an official team announcement.

Anderson, 29, has struggled to start the season, giving up 11 runs over his first 2 starts of the 2019 campaign.

In a corresponding move, the Rockies have recalled right-hander Yency Almonte from Triple-A.
